Operating Room 

Position Summary:

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care according to the standards of nursing practice of the   College of Nurses of Ontario and according to the policies and procedures of Timmins and District Hospital.

Position Requirements:

• Must be a graduate of a diploma or baccalaureate (BScN) nursing program.
• Must possess a current Certificate of Competence issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• A minimum of two years current experience in the Operating Room.
• Must have the ability to perform independently all skills published in the Standards of Nursing Practice, and the learning ability to achieve competency in advanced skills.
• Must be able to demonstrate performance and current competency in IV therapy, central line management and arterial line management.
• Must possess the ability to understand and apply nursing principles and techniques associated with pre, intra, and post operative care.
• Must have had at least one dose of the COVID vaccine.
• Starting salary of $41.15/hour; $80,242.50/year (As per Step 1 of the ONA collective agreement.) ranges to 58.98/hour; $115,011.00/year (As per Step 8 of the ONA collective agreement.)
• Option to enroll into Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan.

Position Responsibilities:

• Ability to function independently as a float nurse, scrub nurse and circulating nurse for all surgical procedures and specialties.
• Ability to provide after hour coverage on a rotational basis.
• Must be knowledgeable of the working of the OR, PACU and Urology suites, and able to provide coverage as required.
• Must possess excellent assessment skills in order to recognize and anticipate patient needs.
• Must possess superior aseptic technique and understand the underlying principles.
• Must possess the ability to assess high risk situation and perform confidently and competently.
• Must possess excellent finger dexterity for manipulation of instruments and equipment.
• Must possess visual and aural acuity to detect changes in patient condition, or reaction to drugs and treatment.
• Must possess excellent eye-hand coordination.
• Demonstrated clinical leadership, self-direction and motivation.
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, vendors, and to articulate both orally and in writing.
• Good health and sufficient strength to lift and transfer dependent patients, and to independently transport patients via stretcher.
• Must be in good health to enable regular attendance at work and performance of all duties in the OR.
• Ability to fulfill all requirements of the position description.
• Employment history must demonstrate regular attendance at work.
