Position Summary: 

The Physiotherapist is responsible for assessment, treatment planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualized physiotherapy interventions for adult inpatients admitted to the medical unit. The role supports restoration of mobility, prevention of deconditioning, fall prevention, safe discharge planning, and optimization of functional independence.

 

Position Requirements: 

·       Degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program.

·       Current registration in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.

·       Current CPR/BCLS certification.

·       Recent experience in acute care preferred.

·       Experience supervising support personnel preferred.

 

Position Responsibilities: 

·       Conduct comprehensive physiotherapy assessments within established timelines.

·       Develop and implement evidence-informed treatment plans based on patient needs and goals.

·       Provide therapeutic interventions including mobility training, strengthening, balance retraining, cardiorespiratory techniques, and functional mobility training.

·       Identify patients at risk for falls and implement prevention strategies.

·       Recommend and prescribe mobility aids and equipment as appropriate.

·       Provide patient and family education regarding mobility, safety, and home exercise programs.

·       Reassess and modify treatment plans as clinically indicated.

·       Provide appropriate supervision and delegation to Physiotherapist Assistants (PTAs) and rehabilitation assistants.

·       ·Ensure delegated tasks align with competency and scope in accordance with standards set by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.

·       Monitor and review delegated care to ensure patient safety and quality outcomes.

·       Provide mentorship, education, and performance feedback to support personnel.

·       Participate in interprofessional rounds and care conferences.

·       Collaborate with discharge planners and community partners to facilitate safe and timely discharge.

·       Provide documentation to support discharge recommendations (e.g., home with supports, inpatient rehabilitation, long-term care).

·       Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive documentation in the hospital’s electronic health record system.

·       Ensure documentation meets professional, legal, and accreditation standards.

·       Practice in accordance with the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) and applicable provincial legislation.

·       Maintain professional liability insurance and current registration in good standing

·       Participate in quality improvement initiatives (e.g., early mobility programs, fall reduction strategies, length-of-stay initiatives).

·       Contribute to departmental audits and outcome tracking.

·       Maintain continuing professional development requirements as mandated by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.

·       Starting salary of $40.36/hour; $78,702.00/year (As per Step 1 of the OPSEU collective agreement) ranging to 56.30/hour; 109,785.00/year (As Step 6 of the OPSEU collective agreement)

·       Option to enroll in Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan.

·       Option to enroll in BlueCross health benefits
