Position Summary
Lifeguards ensure the safety of all pool users by monitoring activities, enforcing rules, and responding to emergencies. They provide first aid/CPR when needed, maintain a safe environment, and deliver excellent customer service.
Duties
• Adhere to Facilities and Recreation’s policies and procedures
• Provide continuous supervision of aquatic areas to ensure patron safety
• Enforce pool rules, policies, and safety regulations
• Identify and prevent potential hazards or unsafe behaviours
• Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, including performing rescues and first aid
• Conduct regular safety checks of equipment and facility areas
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pool deck and surrounding spaces
• Communicate professionally with patrons and staff, promoting a positive environment
• Assist with facility operations and support other aquatics staff as required
• Complete incident reports and documentation as required
• Participate in staff training, drills, and ongoing skill development
Qualifications
• Must be 15 years of age or older, as required by legislation
• Current National Lifeguard or Bronze Cross (National Lifeguard preferred)
• Current Swim Instructor (an asset)
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C
• Current and clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector if 18 years of age or older
• Strong knowledge of water safety, rescue techniques, and emergency procedures
• Excellent observation, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and public relations skills
• Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations
• Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently and as part of a team
