POSITION SUMMARY

Omushkego Education is seeking a creative and culturally aware Graphic Design and Communications Lead to support our education initiatives through visual storytelling, community engagement, and meaningful communication. This role plays a key part in how we share our vision, values and successes across Omushkego communities and beyond.

 

REQUIREMENTS

·         Diploma, certificate or equivalent experience in graphic design, communications, media arts, or Indigenous visual storytelling

·         Proficiency with design tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)

·         Experience creating materials for early learners, particularly with Indigenous or community-based content, is a strong asset

·         Knowledge of or willingness to learn Cree language and incorporate syllabics and words into materials

·         Familiarity with early childhood education approaches (play-based, land-based, inclusive education)

·         Strong understanding of Indigenous visual culture, cultural protocols, and respectful design

·         Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work alongside educators, families, and Elders

·         Experience in managing social media, digital content, and visual storytelling in a community context.

·         Experience working with First Nations communities or in education settings

·         Understanding of early years education or child development

·         Ability to speak or write in Cree, or commitment to learning

·         Photography, video editing, or animation skills
