Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Manager of Engineering, the Engineering Technician will be responsible for surveying, data collection and inspection of all construction work including testing of materials.
Duties
Overview contractor’s work regarding roadwork, storm and sanitary sewers and watermains.
Perform asphalt, granular “A”, granular “B”, water leakage tests, and concrete tests.
Instruct contractors regarding design changes, discrepancies, etc.
Inspect new developments, subdivision roads, and sewers and watermains under construction.
Compile daily contract documents including keeping an account of quotations, force accounts, etc. on the job site.
Take necessary measurements for tracking of all unit cost items (i.e. earth excavation, granular etc.) for progress and final payment certificates.
Make as-built plans for the contracts.
Maintain and update contract prices of different items yearly.
Estimate quantities from the contract drawings.
Prepare preliminary surveys for designs and data collection.
Design storm, sanitary and watermains and prepare specifications.
Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
College diploma in Civil Engineering or Survey Technologist.
Minimum two years’ experience in surveying, or road, sewer and water inspections.
Member or Eligibility for OACETT would be an asset.
Proficient with GPS, Survey and handheld equipment and Total station and conventional survey equipment.
Must have a thorough knowledge of soils and various materials used in construction.
Must possess computer skills with experience in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and GIS applications.
Knowledge of OPS drawings and specifications.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Must possess strong surveying and contract administration skills.
Transportation of dangerous goods and operation of nuclear gauges an asset.
ACI field concrete testing certificate an asset.
Current WHMIS certificate an asset.
